Easter bunny inspiration

Spring is here!  To me spring means daffodils and bunny rabbits.  This post is inspired by the Easter Bunny – a cute lil guy who surprises me with chocolate…what could be better?  But if you’re being good this year, perhaps a cute little enamelled brooch would be a good alternative to naughty chocolate…hmm, maybe in addition to chocolate, not instead of!

If you’re a fan of this blog, you’ll know I ran out of wall space ages ago – I just love wall art: mixed media, pyrography, watercolours, sketches, printables…you name it, I love it.  I’ve finally come up with a solution to my lack of walls.  I could win the lottery and buy a mansion – probably not going to happen, or I could get rid of all my wall art and start again – definitely not going to happen.  What I am going to do is rotate my pics for different seasons and holidays.  Which means I get to treat myself to a spring bunny piece – yay!

I love all the detail in this print by JuliaHillIllustrator She’s got more bunny prints, coasters, and birthday cards too! Everyone knows how much I love anything purple and this watercolour bunny print by ScribblyDribbly has the cutest expression.  For a more modern look, AbbieImagine has rabbits leaping all over the page! There are so many pretty things in HelenFaerieArt‘s Etsy shop, including this print of her pencil drawn hare. I’m always a fan of downloadable printables for last-minute gift ideas and this geometric bunny by SincerelyYulia is a great option for a minimalist look.

If you’re a fan of the geometric rabbit wall art, what about this modern geometric rabbit brooch?  It’s enamelled metal brooch in unisex colours, making it a great Easter gift idea for kids and adults alike!

Since I’m yet another health kick, friends and family aren’t getting sweet treats this year, but something handmade, like this cute bunny necklace, so they can cherish for much longer than the extra pounds a few chocolate eggs would give them!

easter bunny necklace

Etsy has a huge selection of gift ideas made by talented creatives, like this cabbage patch rabbit cushion by FabFunkyPillows – there are six in the collection and I love them all. HoweILoveHandmade has lots of lovely rabbit decorations like this sparkly pink bunny. I love a good mug collection and have to make room for this bunny mug by LCWaterworth that features one of Lauren’s original watercolour designs. For anyone with glasses, reading glasses, or sunglasses, this embroidered case by KateSprostonDesign is a lovely gift idea. She has lots of other embroidered goodies in her shop too!

Jewellery is always a great gift idea…well, it is for me!  These Robot Steampunk Rabbit Earrings are a quirky take on the cute easter bunny and a perfect gift for trendy teens.

The weather doesn’t seem to know it’s spring…but that just means I need snuggly warm things, like his bunny ears hat by BabaMoon.  It’s knitted just for you so you can choose from a rainbow of colours.  Don’t you just love it?!  And if you’ve got a little one, they can match with a crochet hat from ChummyMummyDevon.  Don’t forget to keep your breakfast eggs warm too with Easter bunny egg cosies.  TivkaPatterns have crochet instructions and Littlecottonrabbits have knitting patterns.  They’re instant downloads so you can get cracking straight away (that pun was totally accidental – honest!)

Looking for a dainty little gift?  These bunny rabbit stud earrings are laser cut stainless steel plated in 9ct gold.  An affordable treat they’ll love.  (It’s ok, we won’t tell if you keep them for yourself!)

gold rabbit studs

Whether you’re giving someone a yummy treat or a handmade gift (or both!), a card is always a lovely touch.  From a laser cut design by ChauArtPapercut to a classic rabbit based on original artwork by LianneMarieArt, there’s a card for everyone…and from everyone, with winkdesignuk featuring a cute one from the dog!

It’s such fun to plan Easter egg hunts around the garden (if it’s not pouring with rain) and nobody can really complain that they’ve eaten too much chocolate (can they?), but for those who are celebrating the religious aspect of this holiday, I wish you all joy, happiness, peace and love.  This handmade cross pendant necklace is available to purchase in the QuiddityGifts shop.

Pisces Zodiac Birthday Gift Guide

pisces zodiac sign characteristics and information

Pisces is the last zodiac sign in the cycle.  But you know what they say: save the best for last.  It’s finally time for Pisces to celebrate their birthday, and what better gift than something connected to their astrological sign?

Click here to learn fun facts about the Pisces Zodiac Sign.

Keep reading to browse through a selection of handmade gift ideas from talented creatives and entrepreneurs.  If you’re wondering why there are so many fishy finds, The Fish is the symbol representing the Pisces zodiac sign.

If you’ve read my blog before, you’ll know I love wall art.  While it can sometimes be difficult buying art for others, selecting items that are unframed are a good choice as the recipient can choose a frame to match their décor and style. PapierBeau offers star sign art prints for each of the 12 zodiac signs, and the print of Japanese Koi fish by TheWildernesCo is a great representation of the Pisces symbol.  I’m in love with all the coastal colours of stained glass in this stunning framed shoal of fish by StephenHarriesGlass and think it would make a special birthday gift.  But for fish that are less breakable, consider a limited edition fish print by KaimuIllustrations or a  patterned fish art print by ClaireWilsonDesigns.

If you’re looking for wall art with a bit of a twist, this cold cast bronze sculpture by SerenitySculptures is a perfect representation of the double fish associated with the Pisces zodiac sign.  RobynCoetzeeGlass makes fused glass wall hangings and you can even choose your own colours.  UniqueFishGifts is a great place for quirky fishy gifts, like this zodiac wall hanging.  ChinoiserieHouse offers lots of styles of porcelain fish to hang on the wall or use as bowls.

If you’d like to decorate yourself, rather than your walls, PesciolinoCrafts has a range of fish items, from Christmas decorations to these gorgeous clay brooches, and  CreativeAtelierBg has a lovely needle felted fish brooch for sale. Fancy trying to make your own fishy brooch? Takatay has a complete needle felting kit with everything you need.  This could be the perfect pressie for a creative and artistic Pisces.

There are lots more Pisces zodiac items available for sale on Etsy, like this gorgeous notebook by InkiAndIndio.  It’s handmade to order, so you can choose whether you’d like lined pages or blank ones.  The sparkly Pisces T-shirt by TshirtShowroom is the perfect birthday top.  And how exciting is this zodiac perfume by ZodicaPerfumery?! Each scent is designed based on the individual zodiac signs and comes in it’s own refillable atomiser.  Even better, they’re vegan-certified, made with organic alcohol and not tested on animals.

Pisces zodiac symbol fish jewellery

Pisces is represented by the fish and being in the water or by the water makes them feel at home.  It’s when they are at the calmest and happiest.  So, tropical fish jewellery that’s perfect for beach holidays is a great birthday gift idea for a stylish Pisces.  Lots of different styles to choose from and it can even be gift-wrapped and sent directly to the lucky birthday girl.

Morse Code necklace handmade for Pisces birthday gift

Like the idea of giving the gift of jewellery but want something a little more unique?

Morse Code necklaces are handmade and  encoded with your choice of secret message hidden in stylish silver dots and dashes.  Choose your secret word and colour/style of accent beads.

Each necklace comes with the International Morse Code Alphabet, making decoding the message an exciting part of receiving the gift.

Don’t forget the all important extras.  ThePaperCupboard has the perfect wrapping paper for your fishy gifts.  A zodiac-themed card is a great addition.  AoristStudios has a constellation print card and AstrocardsPrints has a range of zodiac cards featuring gorgeous artwork.

Happy Birthday to all the Pisces out there, and Happy Shopping to all their friends!

It’s time for wine

I’m a big fan of celebrating things I love, and wine is definitely one of them!  February 18th is Drink Wine Day.  While I wasn’t sipping cava at breakfast, I’m definitely enjoying a vino this evening.

happy drink wine day

Wine-themed gifts are always a safe bet with my friends and family, so I’d like to share some of my favourites found on Etsy.  I absolutely adore this fun and quirky poem print by bespoke verse that spells out a different wine for every night of the week…well, if you insist!  I’m always talking about going on a diet, but LYHomeInteriors sums me up with their humorous wall canvas.  If you’re looking for a last-minute gift, why not take a peek at this personalised digital download by prettyblossomprints.

I’m such a fan of coasters…they’re artwork for your table!  Here are some of my favourite wine-themed coasters available on Etsy.  DUSTandTHINGS sums it up perfectly – No one wants a small glass of wine! And this coaster even comes in a rainbow of colours to match your décor.  LittleOliveBranchCo has a lovely personalised birch wood coaster. FloandFloyddesigns has the perfect coaster for your morning cuppa to defend your raging headache! I’m a huge fan of mugs, and I could definitely sneak some Shiraz into this motivational one by WeArePaperPlane.

My all-time perfect wine-themed gift for a special occasion, would have to be this wine rack and cheese board by simplywoodkraft.  If you’re planning a romantic night snuggled up on the sofa with your loved one, or an evening of good chat and fun times with your besties, this wine rack is perfect for holding all your yummies.  I need one!

2018: Year of the Dog: Gift guide

China seems to have the longest New Year celebrations, with preparations for the 2018 event having started a couple of weeks ago on February 8th and the actual end of the Spring Festival not until March 2nd.  With thousands, if not millions, of people travelling huge distances across the vast country to be reunited with their loved ones, I’m sure it’s a hectic time of the year…but it’s still on my bucket list!

Asian New Year is based on the lunar calendar, so it’s never on exactly the same day, like Western New Year’s Eve, but usually falls in January or February.  Click here to learn more about Chinese New Year.

2018 is The Year of the Dog.  I always thought this meant it was a lucky year for those born under this sign, but it’s apparently the complete opposite!  When “your” year rolls around, that’s called your ben ming nian and is a very unlucky time for you.  I’m a pig, so my unlucky year is 2019 – eeek! Not sure if your Chinese zodiac sign is a dog?  Click here to find out what animal you are.

2018: Year of the Dog, Chinese new year gifts

The Chinese celebrate by exchanging good luck gifts of money, presented in traditional red envelopes, like these by EmpoweringProductsCo, ZakkaShoppe, and DarlingSuppliesShop.

I thought it would be a nice idea to celebrate the Year of the Dog with doggie-themed jewellery and handmade gift ideas, so I’ve chosen my favourites from the many talented crafters and entrepreneurs on Etsy.

Katya, a fellow Canuck based in Toronto, has an Etsy shop called UkranianEasterEggs and she makes some stunningly intricate traditional patterns.  I love them all, but these two dog ones would be perfect gifts to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Which is your favourite: the purple or the red?

Looking for something slightly less breakable?  How about a needle felted dog, like this one by Lina of Vilnone in Lithuania?  I always love a cute dachshund and Svetla of SecondChildhoodToys in Bulgaria has a cute knitted dog for sale, while Petya of DPDdolls has a sewn denim dachshund.  They would all make lovely gifts for those born under the dog zodiac sign.

I’m a fan of artwork – I really need more walls! – and this customised Chinse zodiac piece is perfect for anyone.  Davina from MiniInkFingerPrints in Australia will customise your print with a first name, last name, and date.  Don’t worry, she also offers a digital version for you to print out yourself…perfect for last minute gift ideas.

MiniInkFingerPrints

Still haven’t seen the perfect gift for your special ‘dog’ sign? How about a snazzy T-shirt by LiftHerUpApparelCo, a classic mug by WildRiverTradingShop, or a cushion by BirthyPeopleInc.  Like the design on the cushion? You can get it on loads of other things as well, from sweatshirts to shopping bags, all available in their Etsy shop.

My miniature dachshund celebrated her 13th birthday on Valentine’s Day and got spoilt, but since it’s the Year of the Dog, I’m sure she’ll be getting spoilt all year long!  She would look lovely in this Chinese-themed bandana by WoofsAndWagsCo.  It’s in a gorgeous shade of purple that’s right on trend for 2018 and matches the QuiddityGifts‘ logo!  And, I think her mummy (aka: me!) deserves a little treat too.  this wine glass by WineandShineShop has me written all over it.

And the award for the absolute cutest Chinese-themed item has to be these adorable fortune cookie baby booties by SushiBooties, based in Oregon, USA.  You even get to choose the fortune messages you’d like sewn on…and they come packaged in a ‘take away’ box!

sushibooties

Don’t forget to include a card with your pressie…I always do…oops!  I love the brushwork and traditional style of the card by RICEandINK and TheLittleLionPress has an instant download option of their Chinese New Year card.  For all the dachshund lovers out there, PickleDogDesign has a gorgeous card that is perfect for celebrating the Year of he Dog, but can also be personalised with a custom message, making in great for any celebration throughout the year.

Whether you’re choosing to celebrate Chinese New Year by going to temple or ordering your favourite yummy treat from the local Chinese take-away, I’d like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.

Celebrate Burn’s Night!

I’m going to do it!

In all my…many years on this Earth, I’ve never eaten haggis.  It’s sort of like Marmite, in the sense that I’ve always claimed I didn’t like it…but I’ve never actually tried it.  So, this Burn’s Night is going to change all that.  We’ve got a table booked at the local pub and I’m determined to celebrate Burn’s Night in style.

burns night rennie mackintosh

I visited Scotland for the first time last year – I know, shame on me for not having gone earlier.  I loved visiting Rennie Mackintosh’s house and was inspired by his fabulous art deco style.  This pendant is actually an art deco spin on the mathematical Fibonacci Golden Ratio sequence, but it reminds me of some of the decorative elements in the Mackintosh house.  What do you think?

For me, nothing says ‘Scotland’ like Harris tweed and gorgeous Scottish thistles, so I’ve curated a collection of my favourite handmade Scottish makes for the perfect Burn’s Night gift ideas:

Camera Creatives!

I’ve had my camera for a whole two weeks and I’m officially obsessed!

My last post was all about how excited I am about my New Year’s resolution to improve my photography skills…and all the fun accessories that I just have to have.  But while I was browsing the virtual shelves of Etsy, I came across so many fun camera-themed gifts that I just had to share them with all of you.  (If any of my lovely friends or family are reading this, you know what’s on my birthday list!)

First of all, I confess – I am a mug addict.  I’ve got a mug for tea, one for green tea, one for coffee….well, you get the idea.  So, when I saw these mugs with great camera puns I fell in love with all of them!  Which is your favourite?

Mugs are available on Etsy and featured photos are from: Ganikbrace, artRuss, TheCoffeeCorner, ThePerfectPresentsCo, MikaMugs, TeerrificApparel.

Until my photos get good enough to print (this may be quite a while yet!), I need to decorate my walls.  All three of these prints are very different, but I think they’re all fab.  And digital downloads make a great gift idea if you’ve left it until the last minute!

To purchase camera-themed art, visit: MoonlakeStudio, differentposters, RainbowCanary

If you follow my blog, you’ll know I’m the owner of QuiddityGifts, which is all about jewellery…so it’s very ‘girly’.  I’ve loved looking at all the photography gifts as they’re perfect for men or women, like this t-shirt by FirstChoiceApparel, keychain by GlassCharmed, or notebooks by etmamu and WoodGiftStore (yes, theirs actually features a wooden cover!).  Hmmm…now I just need more friends who are interested in cameras, or I’ll end up buying pressies for me, myself, and I!

If you didn’t ready my last post, you might have missed the motivational camera necklace that’s so popular it’s almost sold out!
