Celebrate Burn’s Night!

I’m going to do it!

In all my…many years on this Earth, I’ve never eaten haggis.  It’s sort of like Marmite, in the sense that I’ve always claimed I didn’t like it…but I’ve never actually tried it.  So, this Burn’s Night is going to change all that.  We’ve got a table booked at the local pub and I’m determined to celebrate Burn’s Night in style.

burns night rennie mackintosh

I visited Scotland for the first time last year – I know, shame on me for not having gone earlier.  I loved visiting Rennie Mackintosh’s house and was inspired by his fabulous art deco style.  This pendant is actually an art deco spin on the mathematical Fibonacci Golden Ratio sequence, but it reminds me of some of the decorative elements in the Mackintosh house.  What do you think?

For me, nothing says ‘Scotland’ like Harris tweed and gorgeous Scottish thistles, so I’ve curated a collection of my favourite handmade Scottish makes for the perfect Burn’s Night gift ideas:

Featured: scarf, purse, coasters, bag, coin purse, compact mirrors

Featured: art print, thistle mug, candle holdertweed picture

What’s your favourite Scottish souvenir?  and how are you going to celebrate Burn’s Night 2018?

Camera Creatives!

I’ve had my camera for a whole two weeks and I’m officially obsessed!

My last post was all about how excited I am about my New Year’s resolution to improve my photography skills…and all the fun accessories that I just have to have.  But while I was browsing the virtual shelves of Etsy, I came across so many fun camera-themed gifts that I just had to share them with all of you.  (If any of my lovely friends or family are reading this, you know what’s on my birthday list!)

First of all, I confess – I am a mug addict.  I’ve got a mug for tea, one for green tea, one for coffee….well, you get the idea.  So, when I saw these mugs with great camera puns I fell in love with all of them!  Which is your favourite?

Mugs are available on Etsy and featured photos are from: Ganikbrace, artRuss, TheCoffeeCorner, ThePerfectPresentsCo, MikaMugs, TeerrificApparel.

Until my photos get good enough to print (this may be quite a while yet!), I need to decorate my walls.  All three of these prints are very different, but I think they’re all fab.  And digital downloads make a great gift idea if you’ve left it until the last minute!

To purchase camera-themed art, visit: MoonlakeStudio, differentposters, RainbowCanary

If you follow my blog, you’ll know I’m the owner of QuiddityGifts, which is all about jewellery…so it’s very ‘girly’.  I’ve loved looking at all the photography gifts as they’re perfect for men or women, like this t-shirt by FirstChoiceApparel, keychain by GlassCharmed, or notebooks by etmamu and WoodGiftStore (yes, theirs actually features a wooden cover!).  Hmmm…now I just need more friends who are interested in cameras, or I’ll end up buying pressies for me, myself, and I!

If you didn’t ready my last post, you might have missed the motivational camera necklace that’s so popular it’s almost sold out!

Photography Dreams!

I’ve been rather quiet on social media for the past few months (sorry!) and it’s mainly due to how awful my photography skills are (they’re on par with those of a potato!).  So, one of my goals for 2018 is to spruce up my photos.  Now, I know people say the camera doesn’t matter….but, I’ve got a pretty new camera to play with! Yay!  But, that means I need lots of pretty camera accessories and camera themed goodies, so I’ve scoured Etsy for some of my favourites:

I’ve never had a ‘proper’ camera before, so a lens cap holder is a definite must to stop me from losing it!  SassyStrap and Abokika have some lovely options available:

And I have to have a camera strap because, let’s face it, the one that comes with the camera is always horribly ugly!  I love scarves (even in the summer) and this stylish scarf camera strap by WrappedDesigns even comes with a hidden zip pocket for your phone or lens or wallet – how perfect is that?  TheWatermelonDesign has a strap with dachshunds on – just take a peek at my logo to see how much I love daxies!  PaisleyMaizie has a gorgeous travel-themed strap for sale and it’s got a mini pocket for my lens cap.  But for a truly special gift, SoGoodSoWood offers leather straps in a rainbow of colours with loads of personalised options, including gorgeous gold monograms – I’m in love with their dark purple called ‘Sangria’!

I’ve looked at a lot of camera bags (a lot) and nothing compares to how selection of gorgeous fabric patterns offered by JanineKingDesigns from New York.  I can’t speak for the quality, but they look roomy enough for quite a bit of kit and they’re padded to protect precious lenses and they’ve got added pockets for other bits and bobs.  Definitely on my Christmas list for 2018 (yes, I realise it’s only January now!)  I’ve narrowed it down to my two favourites: monochrome or bright and colourful.  Which do you prefer?

I may already have the camera, but I’ll still need a long time to save up for all the extra goodies to go with it, so I might need this totally awesome money box by FotoCrazyNW

Dachshund Gift Guide

Last week I wrote a little blog highlighting some of my favourite DIY dachshund craft kits on Etsy.  But, if you don’t know your darning needles from your quilling thingamajiggies, then you might be more interested in today’s dachshund gift guide.  Handmade items already made and ready to give…or keep for yourself!mangoandme

I just bought myself a set of crochet hooks.  To be honest, I’m not really sure what to do with them as my ability has always been limited to a granny square.  But now that I have them, I need a stylish case to put them in…isn’t this pencil case by Mangoandme just perfect? It even comes in different colours too!

Needle felting is another craft that has been on my “must-try” list for ages, but I can’t imagine I’d ever be as good as Elena Zavalishina, owner of Felteddoggie.  This little dachshund by DreamyFox looks just like my princess.  You can send a photo and have one made to look just like your four-legged friend!

Handmade gifts are always the best choice, especially since they can be personalised, like this chopping board from Bordocuttingboards which would make a lovely wedding gift for dachshund loving couple, or a 3d printed sculpture that’s handpainted by cooldirtspot to look just like your dachshund.

My favourite gifts would have to involve my favourite things: dachshunds and wine!  This top by Umbuh is the perfect thing to wear when you’re drinking wine with a dachshund curled up on your lap (where else would they be?!)  And a glittery wine glass by WineandShineShop is perfect for sipping vino.  I love UK based Etsy shop TheCornishCoasterCo and their great selection of dachshund coasters.  There are super long ones and even ones featuring daxies wearing little cactus print jumpers!

Now when it comes to art, I’m usually hopeless at knowing if something is “good”…but I definitely know what I like, and I love the look of this detailed paper cut by FlorrieandMe1.  They even have the more affordable option of a A4 print too.  And this limited edition print by paintmydog is so lifelike it’s as if my mini daxie is giving me the “what do you mean there are no more treats?!” look.

Whatever gift you choose for your doxie-loving friend, don’t forget a card!  AmySpittleArt has a gorgeous card great for any occasion.  There’s also a matching print for the wall and a cuddly cushion too.  And yes…I want them all!

If you’re a lover of sausage dogs, weiners, doxies, dachshies, or dachshunds, don’t forget to take a peek at the Dachshund Collection by Quiddity Gifts.  15% of the sale of any dachshund gift (jewellery, keychains, bookmarks, etc.) will be donated to the registered charity Dachshund Rescue UK to help dachshunds requiring rehoming.

DIY Dachshund Gifts

It’s all about daxies in our house…my little princess rules the roost.  By that I mean, she takes over the entire bed (how does one miniature dachshund stretch so long?!), guilts me into never finishing a meal myself (you have to share when she gives you the eyes!), and insists on “welcoming” the postman every morning… very loudly!

But as any true doxie lover knows, a house isn’t a home without a dachshund!

As unbelievable as it may seem, there are little sausages in need of homes, so Quiddity Gifts has teamed up with registered charity Dachshund Rescue UK.  15% of all dachshund gifts will be donated to help our short and long four-legged friends.

If you’re feeling creative, or buying a pressie for someone who is, Etsy has a great range of craft kits…with a dachshund theme, of course!

My first set of crochet hooks just arrived today, and it may be a little too ambitious, but I’m dying to try and make this adorable dachshund puppy.  Doesn’t it look just like my little munchkin did when she was a baby?! With a downloadable PDF file from MostlyStitchin, there’s no waiting….eeek, no excuse for me now!

LittleBeachHut
If cross-stitch is more your thing, why not get cracking on a Christmas pattern from LittleBeachHut.  It would look great framed or turned into a greeting card…..or even a lovely bookmark!

The packaging of this kit is just gorgeous and would make a great gift for anyone wanting to get started.

maddiethekatpatternsI’m not sure whether I’d be any good with lots of tiny beads (flashback to making friendship bracelets in primary school and knocking beads all over the floor!!), but this kit by maddiethekatpatterns would make the cutest black and tan dachshund.  Look at those eyes!

LuckyFoxKnits

One thing I’m not too terrible at is knitting, so I think my daxie is going to get a lovely knitted flower scarf for Christmas…I’d better get started on this pattern by LuckyFoxKnits now!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram to see the finished creation of my attempt at knitting….and then my mum’s attempt at fixing it! lol

Happy Pineapple Day!

You’re probably wondering why I’m choosing to write a blog about pineapples…well, apart from them being absolutely delicious and nutritious, pineapples are very trendy at the moment…and June 27th is officially Pineapple Day! So, what better time to celebrate this royal fruit?

Be a Pineapple!.png

I’m not sure who first came up with the the whole “be a pineapple” quote, but it went viral and now there are pineapples in everything from home decor to clothes, toys to jewellery.

The symbolism of the pineapple is also one of hospitality, dating back hundreds of years to when Caribbean peoples displayed pineapples in front of their doors or villages to signify visitors were welcome.

The pineapple also has another claim to fame, it’s the zodiac fruit for the Cancer sign.  According to Sherry L. Granader each sign is linked to fruit that can enhance their life. Click to learn more about Cancer’s zodiac sign.

Be a Pineapple!-2

So, now that you know all about the pineapple, let’s have a look at some of my favourite handmade pineapple-themed gift ideas…and since my birthday is coming up, this is my wish list!

If you follow my blog, you’ll know I’m a coffee addict….instant, latte, espresso, iced mocha frappucino, I love it all! So first up is a lovely mug by HeartMyMugs, a personalised option from SpokenGifts (how did they know I love Piña Coladas?!), and a great big one to keep me going from GivingGlitterCo.

Some girls like shoes, others like bags.  To be honest, I like both! But top of my pineapple list is this gorgeous personalised cosmetic bag by TheCreativeBagCo and since I grew up in the ’80s, I love a bit of neon, so this shopper by BridieGraceShop is just fab! And how cute is this coin purse by GoodChic?

My shop QuiddityGifts is full of lots of pretty jewellery from hand-carved clay to custom Morse Code necklaces…but I’m all out of pineapples at the moment, so I’d like to share these cute stud earrings on a personalised card by BellaBooPrints and a beautiful little dish to store them in so they don’t get lost by LucyRogersDesign

Is anyone else running out of walls?! There are so many lovely things to hang on them that I need more space! I love this print by IKnowimPerfectPrints and they even have a downloadable option…just in case you’ve left it until the very last minute to buy your pressie…how clever is that? ChauArtPapercut has a lovely pineapple cutout card that should definitely be popped in a frame instead of being thrown out (tell me I’m not the only one who ends up keeping all their birthday cards?!) And, depending on your budget, LittleStitchOfNature and YellowTulipCrafts both have stunning embroidery to adorn your walls.

Nothing says a birthday treat like a little pampering so I’m dying to try this giant bath bomb by BubblyBadger – it’s vegan and 10% is donated to a pig rescued from slaughter. Another vegan offering is this lush sounding lip balm from BahariBlossom

It’s almost July and when the sun pops out, nothing gets me in the summer mood better than a Piña Colada (did I mention I really really like them!?)  Here’s an amazing looking candle from FizzySmelts and another gorgeous pressie from SpokenGifts, this time a personalised cosmetics bag with the perfect motivational message!

And after all the pampering and Piña Coladas, if you’re still stressed out, what you need is…a pineapple stress ball by mymookie!

Gifts for Geminis

Gemini zodiac sign characteristics.pngThose born under the sign of Gemini are known to have dual personalities after their symbol of the twins, but their passionate and creative characteristics have also earned them the title of “Artists” of the horoscope.

These gorgeous necklaces spell ‘GEMINI’ in Morse Code and come in shades of blue and grey to represent the skies of this Air element sign.  Also available with pearl accent beads for June’s birthstone.

Click to buy a Morse Code necklace.

If you’re looking to buy a birthday pressie for a Gemini, why not choose a handmade item from a talented Etsy seller?  Astrology-themed items range from an enamelled pin by WildflowerandCompany to silver galaxy jewellery by CharlieMorgan, and even a hand-painted wooden sign by cloverandpeach.

Gemini is represented by the symbol of the twins, and what makes a better gift than artwork to brighten up your walls?  I absolutely love the illustrated zodiac paper cut artwork by Edinburgh based artist Marc J. Malone of ZodiArtistry and the floral paper quilled accents on the Gemini symbol by WonderCraftShop.  The cute cross stitch cats by CrossStitchMascots makes the perfect gift for a little one’s room.

For a more unusual Gemini gift, you might consider items featuring Lily of the Valley or Lavender, which are the zodiac flowers of Gemini, or Parrots, which are one of the zodiac birds of Gemini. These beautiful glasses feature handpainted lavender flowers by witchcorner; vegan soap features the floral scent of lily of the valley by chaaboo; glasses case features tropical parrot pattern by FabricLoveandFun.

Whatever gift you choose for your Gemini friend, don’t forget the card!  There is a lovely selection of cards handmade and hand-designed on Etsy, from funny by PaperFreckles to stylish by Idlewildco to floral by augustandoak.

Bank holiday family fun day & craft fair!

It’s always nice to support budding entrepreneurs…you’re not only investing in the local economy but you’re helping someone’s dream become a reality.

Those of you who follow my blog should know how much I love shopping online.  It’s easy, it’s convenient, and you don’t have to disturb the dog/cat who’s curled up on your lap!  But I also love a craft fair, especially one that welcomes the whole family.  At the end of May, Quiddity Gifts will join 18 other talented creatives as part of a bank holiday family fun day in Cheshire.

Here’s a chance to get to know the entrepreneurs who will be taking part in this year’s fair:

Quiddity Gifts run by yours truly and my mini dachshund Maya (logo inspiration, lap warmer, and postman greeter) from Crewe, Cheshire.

I started making paperclay jewellery in motivational leaf and cloud designs, but over the years have expanded to meet the needs of my customers.  Morse Code necklaces are now the most popular item with secret messages ranging from names to dates to downright rude messages! I love custom orders and my favourite piece to make is always a custom design for a bride’s big day!  Check out the new collection of beach inspired turquoise jewellery that will be available at the craft fair:

Bella’s Boutique , named after owner Michelle’s Yorkshire Terrier, is your one stop shop to find the perfect gift for your four-legged yappy companion: from collars to pet beds, squeaky toys to fancy dress!

She also stocks the best-selling sports harness, which is a comfortable and stylish alternative to a dog collar.  Already got one of those? Wondering what to get for the dog who’s got everything? How about some doggy perfume! You’ve got to pop by the fun day to check that out, or take a peek at the website.

Bella's Boutique

All Good Things run by the lovely Anna and Lynn, the brains behind this wonderful community event, will be there with bows on….literally as their shop is a treasure-trove of ribbons and bows, wool and material, buttons and …well, you get the idea!

And if you don’t know your darning needle from your rug hook, treat yourself to a readymade item.  My favourite are the adorable owl cushions, but who could say no to a cuddly teddy or cute hedgehog?! If it’s a baby shower gift you’re looking for, they have a lovely selection of knitted baby booties.  Older children would love a reading pillow to store their favourite night-time story book.  Come and see all the goodies at the craft fair:
