DIY Dachshund Gifts

It’s all about daxies in our house…my little princess rules the roost.  By that I mean, she takes over the entire bed (how does one miniature dachshund stretch so long?!), guilts me into never finishing a meal myself (you have to share when she gives you the eyes!), and insists on “welcoming” the postman every morning… very loudly!

But as any true doxie lover knows, a house isn’t a home without a dachshund!

As unbelievable as it may seem, there are little sausages in need of homes, so Quiddity Gifts has teamed up with registered charity Dachshund Rescue UK.  15% of all dachshund gifts will be donated to help our short and long four-legged friends.

If you’re feeling creative, or buying a pressie for someone who is, Etsy has a great range of craft kits…with a dachshund theme, of course!

My first set of crochet hooks just arrived today, and it may be a little too ambitious, but I’m dying to try and make this adorable dachshund puppy.  Doesn’t it look just like my little munchkin did when she was a baby?! With a downloadable PDF file from MostlyStitchin, there’s no waiting….eeek, no excuse for me now!

LittleBeachHut
If cross-stitch is more your thing, why not get cracking on a Christmas pattern from LittleBeachHut.  It would look great framed or turned into a greeting card…..or even a lovely bookmark!

The packaging of this kit is just gorgeous and would make a great gift for anyone wanting to get started.

maddiethekatpatternsI’m not sure whether I’d be any good with lots of tiny beads (flashback to making friendship bracelets in primary school and knocking beads all over the floor!!), but this kit by maddiethekatpatterns would make the cutest black and tan dachshund.  Look at those eyes!

LuckyFoxKnits

One thing I’m not too terrible at is knitting, so I think my daxie is going to get a lovely knitted flower scarf for Christmas…I’d better get started on this pattern by LuckyFoxKnits now!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram to see the finished creation of my attempt at knitting….and then my mum’s attempt at fixing it! lol

Happy Pineapple Day!

You’re probably wondering why I’m choosing to write a blog about pineapples…well, apart from them being absolutely delicious and nutritious, pineapples are very trendy at the moment…and June 27th is officially Pineapple Day! So, what better time to celebrate this royal fruit?

Be a Pineapple!.png

I’m not sure who first came up with the the whole “be a pineapple” quote, but it went viral and now there are pineapples in everything from home decor to clothes, toys to jewellery.

The symbolism of the pineapple is also one of hospitality, dating back hundreds of years to when Caribbean peoples displayed pineapples in front of their doors or villages to signify visitors were welcome.

The pineapple also has another claim to fame, it’s the zodiac fruit for the Cancer sign.  According to Sherry L. Granader each sign is linked to fruit that can enhance their life. Click to learn more about Cancer’s zodiac sign.

Be a Pineapple!-2

So, now that you know all about the pineapple, let’s have a look at some of my favourite handmade pineapple-themed gift ideas…and since my birthday is coming up, this is my wish list!

If you follow my blog, you’ll know I’m a coffee addict….instant, latte, espresso, iced mocha frappucino, I love it all! So first up is a lovely mug by HeartMyMugs, a personalised option from SpokenGifts (how did they know I love Piña Coladas?!), and a great big one to keep me going from GivingGlitterCo.

Some girls like shoes, others like bags.  To be honest, I like both! But top of my pineapple list is this gorgeous personalised cosmetic bag by TheCreativeBagCo and since I grew up in the ’80s, I love a bit of neon, so this shopper by BridieGraceShop is just fab! And how cute is this coin purse by GoodChic?

My shop QuiddityGifts is full of lots of pretty jewellery from hand-carved clay to custom Morse Code necklaces…but I’m all out of pineapples at the moment, so I’d like to share these cute stud earrings on a personalised card by BellaBooPrints and a beautiful little dish to store them in so they don’t get lost by LucyRogersDesign

Is anyone else running out of walls?! There are so many lovely things to hang on them that I need more space! I love this print by IKnowimPerfectPrints and they even have a downloadable option…just in case you’ve left it until the very last minute to buy your pressie…how clever is that? ChauArtPapercut has a lovely pineapple cutout card that should definitely be popped in a frame instead of being thrown out (tell me I’m not the only one who ends up keeping all their birthday cards?!) And, depending on your budget, LittleStitchOfNature and YellowTulipCrafts both have stunning embroidery to adorn your walls.

Nothing says a birthday treat like a little pampering so I’m dying to try this giant bath bomb by BubblyBadger – it’s vegan and 10% is donated to a pig rescued from slaughter. Another vegan offering is this lush sounding lip balm from BahariBlossom

It’s almost July and when the sun pops out, nothing gets me in the summer mood better than a Piña Colada (did I mention I really really like them!?)  Here’s an amazing looking candle from FizzySmelts and another gorgeous pressie from SpokenGifts, this time a personalised cosmetics bag with the perfect motivational message!

And after all the pampering and Piña Coladas, if you’re still stressed out, what you need is…a pineapple stress ball by mymookie!

Have a Happy Pineapple Day!

Gifts for Geminis

Gemini zodiac sign characteristics.pngThose born under the sign of Gemini are known to have dual personalities after their symbol of the twins, but their passionate and creative characteristics have also earned them the title of “Artists” of the horoscope.

These gorgeous necklaces spell ‘GEMINI’ in Morse Code and come in shades of blue and grey to represent the skies of this Air element sign.  Also available with pearl accent beads for June’s birthstone.

Click to buy a Morse Code necklace.

If you’re looking to buy a birthday pressie for a Gemini, why not choose a handmade item from a talented Etsy seller?  Astrology-themed items range from an enamelled pin by WildflowerandCompany to silver galaxy jewellery by CharlieMorgan, and even a hand-painted wooden sign by cloverandpeach.

Gemini is represented by the symbol of the twins, and what makes a better gift than artwork to brighten up your walls?  I absolutely love the illustrated zodiac paper cut artwork by Edinburgh based artist Marc J. Malone of ZodiArtistry and the floral paper quilled accents on the Gemini symbol by WonderCraftShop.  The cute cross stitch cats by CrossStitchMascots makes the perfect gift for a little one’s room.

For a more unusual Gemini gift, you might consider items featuring Lily of the Valley or Lavender, which are the zodiac flowers of Gemini, or Parrots, which are one of the zodiac birds of Gemini. These beautiful glasses feature handpainted lavender flowers by witchcorner; vegan soap features the floral scent of lily of the valley by chaaboo; glasses case features tropical parrot pattern by FabricLoveandFun.

Whatever gift you choose for your Gemini friend, don’t forget the card!  There is a lovely selection of cards handmade and hand-designed on Etsy, from funny by PaperFreckles to stylish by Idlewildco to floral by augustandoak.

Bank holiday family fun day & craft fair!

It’s always nice to support budding entrepreneurs…you’re not only investing in the local economy but you’re helping someone’s dream become a reality.

Those of you who follow my blog should know how much I love shopping online.  It’s easy, it’s convenient, and you don’t have to disturb the dog/cat who’s curled up on your lap!  But I also love a craft fair, especially one that welcomes the whole family.  At the end of May, Quiddity Gifts will join 18 other talented creatives as part of a bank holiday family fun day in Cheshire.

Here’s a chance to get to know the entrepreneurs who will be taking part in this year’s fair:

Quiddity Gifts run by yours truly and my mini dachshund Maya (logo inspiration, lap warmer, and postman greeter) from Crewe, Cheshire.

I started making paperclay jewellery in motivational leaf and cloud designs, but over the years have expanded to meet the needs of my customers.  Morse Code necklaces are now the most popular item with secret messages ranging from names to dates to downright rude messages! I love custom orders and my favourite piece to make is always a custom design for a bride’s big day!  Check out the new collection of beach inspired turquoise jewellery that will be available at the craft fair:

Bella’s Boutique , named after owner Michelle’s Yorkshire Terrier, is your one stop shop to find the perfect gift for your four-legged yappy companion: from collars to pet beds, squeaky toys to fancy dress!

She also stocks the best-selling sports harness, which is a comfortable and stylish alternative to a dog collar.  Already got one of those? Wondering what to get for the dog who’s got everything? How about some doggy perfume! You’ve got to pop by the fun day to check that out, or take a peek at the website.

All Good Things run by the lovely Anna and Lynn, the brains behind this wonderful community event, will be there with bows on….literally as their shop is a treasure-trove of ribbons and bows, wool and material, buttons and …well, you get the idea!

And if you don’t know your darning needle from your rug hook, treat yourself to a readymade item.  My favourite are the adorable owl cushions, but who could say no to a cuddly teddy or cute hedgehog?! If it’s a baby shower gift you’re looking for, they have a lovely selection of knitted baby booties.  Older children would love a reading pillow to store their favourite night-time story book.  Come and see all the goodies at the craft fair:

All about Taurus

Anyone born between April 21st and May 21st is a Taurus…a stubbornly determined bull!  Click here for more information about Taurus, or keep reading for a gift guide of handmade items all specially selected for this zodiac sign.

How do you describe Taurus characteristics? Let the gifts say it all! From printable wall art by ADesignFor to a T-shirt by SassySmack and even a gorgeous makeup bag by MichelewithasingleL

Did you know each zodiac sign has their own bird? Taurus actually has three: the dove, sparrow, and swan.  Swans are stunningly beautiful and the fact that they mate for life has made them a symbol of everlasting love, making a swan charm bracelet a romantic gift for the special Taurus in your life. Click here to read my previous post about swans.

Swan Charm Bracelet-3

The zodiac flowers for Taurus are: rose, poppy, and foxglove. How about a rose-themed paper cutting by colorstorydesigns , or stunningly detailed needle-felted foxgloves in gorgeous shades of purples and blues by tillyteadance? Poppies are one of my favourite flowers and I just love everything MaisyPlum does, so these gorgeous enamelled copper poppies would be top of my wish list.

If you’re looking for a unique zodiac inspired gift for a Taurus lady, why not consider aromatherapy? Each zodiac sign has specific essential oils that are recommended to work in harmony with the characteristics of that sign. Pairing a special blend of essential oils by MysticMomentsUK with handmade oil diffusing jewellery by QuiddityGifts would offer your special Taurus a stylish way to enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy. You could even tweak the jewellery to include a birthstone, gemstone, or favourite colour beads. Click to read more about zodiac aromatherapy for Taurus.

Although Taureans enjoy practical gifts, who wouldn’t love this adorable teddy by KnittedStoryBears? And if you’re a tad better at wielding a crochet hook than I am, you could have a go at making this adorable bull with an instant download pattern available from DioneDesign.

If your stylish Taurus isn’t so keen on bragging about her star sign, treat her to minimal beaded jewellery with her zodiac sign encoded in a secret message spelled out in silver-plated dots and dashes. Morse Code necklaces by QuiddityGifts.

Other handmade gift options include a personalised mug with an adorable illustration of a Taurus bull by Sophie0610Designs, a constellation tote bag by HeartAndWillowPrints, and a trendy notebook by JournalandCo.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the Taurus men out there! A quality leather keychain by NairiLeatherFashion or stunning framed copper bull by MyCopperCraft would make great gift ideas.

And, if you’ve left it until the last minute, don’t worry because there are great options that aren’t just gift certificates. Take a peek at these downloadable art prints:

Whatever gift you choose, don’t forget to include a birthday card!

Swan Fever!

If you read my last post, you’ll know I’m not too fond of birds.  Well, swans aren’t too fond of me!  Fortunately, the photo of them attacking me on the Isle of Wight was “accidentally” deleted.

But, is it just me, or are there swans everywhere these days?swan charm bracelet-2

It’s got me thinking and it’s really no wonder swans are so popular.  They’re one of the species of animals who mate for life and two swans posing with their slender necks forming a heart shape has become symbolic of everlasting love.  Did you know, it’s actually possible for a swan to die of a broken heart if their mate dies?  How romantically tragic!

Feeling inspired by the Easter holidays and spending time with loved ones, I’ve created a stunning charm bracelet featuring adorable swans and heart charms…and a little bit of bling with Swarovski elements crystal beads too.  Whether it’s for a Mother’s Day gift or a romantic treat for your someone special, it’s sure to put a smile on her face.

Swan Charm Bracelet-4

Swan bracelet available to purchase on the QuiddityGifts website or on Etsy.

FUN FACT! According to an article by Annie B, each zodiac sign is connected to specific birds and swans are linked to Taurus (April 20 – May 21), Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22), and Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20), so this charm bracelet would make a fab birthday gift for her!

If you’re not in the mood for jewellery (don’t worry…it sometimes happens to even the best of us!), how about taking a peek at some of the other gift ideas from talented members of the Etsy UK community?

But since swans are trending all over the world at the moment, I thought I’d highlight some of the talented makers from other countries.

Embroidery hoops seem to be popular in Australia, and these examples from InaSudjana and RubySewOh are just gorgeous!

Also from Australia is this pretty pink wall clock by NestAccessories which would look lovely in paired with this swan princess wooden decor by Myletterdeco from Israel.

From Europe, I’ve fallen in love with this swan ring by fraufischers in Germany (she also has a dachshund version of the ring which I just have to have!!!) and the very clever paper origami earrings by FrenchPaperArt

There were so many lovely swan makes from across the pond in good ol’ U.S. of A., but I finally managed to choose my favourites, including a unique wooden statue by RhondaBrownArt, an eco-friendly wooden toy by MonkeyandBeanDesigns up in Alaska, and the cutest little dress by the lovely Kelly at GirlWithATwirl.

Happy Birthday Aries!

Zodiac signs are fascinating because even if you don’t really believe in them, it’s hard to deny that some of the descriptions aren’t spot on.

aries zodiac necklaceThis month it’s time for Aries to celebrate their birthday and since my mum’s an aries, the zodiac necklace designed for stubborn rams has been approved by her!  Fortunately the crystals sparkle in the light and make a great substitute for Diamonds, April’s birthstone.  Ok…not sure mum agrees with that part of the design!  Don’t forget to check back for another blog post all about this gorgeous birthstone.
